This look was made for my Jr. Studio final collection. The theme was industrialization in relation to urban environments. The trench coat was made from 10oz cotton canvas, which was naturally dyed through a multi-stage process. First, it was mordanted in pomegranate, then rust dyed using vinegar and salt to seal the rust in the fabric. This process took about a week to fully set into the fabric. The yardage was then over-dyed in a cutch/madder blend. The final result was a warm tone tan with the rust dyed application all over.
The dress shirt is made from 100% brushed silk. It served as a blank canvas to sit below the loud trench and pants. Choosing to speak through tailoring and details such as the double collar and buttons, this piece is still able to stand on its own.
The pants are made from 100% cotton and were also naturally dyed with the cutch/madder blend. They were then soaked in iron to give a darken and to give more contrast. They are also very stylized, choosing to have 22 pattern pieces that fit together. The silhouette is an extreme flare with a hug at the knee, using triple darts to add dimension and comfort.
